Good spin on an old story. Moves along at a good pace thanks to well-rounded characters. I did like the way the story tied past and present, but was a little bit disappointed that Boop didn't have the courage to tell Abe the whole truth. Perhaps sometimes we are ruled by family and heritage rather than personal desire.Her best yet I have read and enjoyed all of Amy Sue Nathan's previous novels. But not this one. I LOVED this one! Characters who are 'real' and a setting that is so authentic it's another character. The character arc forced young Betty to cope with lost love/life changes (something we can all relate to). The payoff was seeing the older Betty (Boop) had built a life on those changes.I think Ms. Nathan will have to work hard with her next book to top all the 'feels' this book delivers. But I have faith she is up to the challenge.Drivel Such silly, stereotyped characters that it is impossible to care about them or their lives.

~~Espionage/Thriller/Mystery....~~ This novel covers espionage, mystery as well as being a thriller. The setting is the reason I selected this as one of my First Reads for January 2020. Spain...as I have lived there for over 10 years and the areas were so familiar. To be perfectly honest it made me a little homesick for the people. the cities...and even the smell of orange blossoms in the air in Seville!Wes was an agent for the CIA until he made a mistake...supposedly. He was sent to a prison in France for 5 years for his part in the incident. Three years into his sentence, he received news that his ex-wife was killed in a terrorist bombing in Granada. Wes was released two years early from the prison.The realization that he had a son was news to him and Wes is more than determined to see if the three year old named Ethan is alive ...or died along with his mother in the terrorist bombing. So, the search begins in Granada for any clues that may provide an explanation to the location of his son.The reader will be taken along on this multi-faceted plot of intrigue, suspense, and mystery. And, the world of espionage rears its head again...Thought the characters were well developed and Mia Pavic contributed immensely to the novel...She was intriguing and had an air of suspense about her, too.Lots of intrigue and plenty of suspense coupled with a mystery and espionage made this an exciting read for me. Glad that I selected this for one of my First reads January 2020.Highly recommended.Broken Characters An entertaining and well written Kindle First book; what a rare treat!Memorable, unique characters help the story move along at a good pace. The main character, released from prison early due to the death of his wife, manages to outwit the team of killers set to pick him up. He is “rescued“ by the strange daughter of one of his former prisoners. Together they travel Europe hunting for a lost child and ultimately finding something else.The writer does an excellent job of creating a sense of place from France across the Iberian Peninsula into Croatia and ultimately to Italy. The hotels come to life as do the small quiet places. The supporting characters all add to the story and each have logical connections to the main characters. The quest itself makes a few leaps that don’t always add up but all in all, the story holds together well.Excellent and one I couldn't put down until I finished. Excellent and a book I couldn't put down until finished. Good for all ages. I will read this author again.
